The Dirty Bird Mud Run
The Dirty Bird Mud Run started as an idea to raise money and awareness for Veterans. Andrew Churchill help conceptualized this idea and turned it into a Mud Run that benefits Veterans. I worked very closely with Andrew Churchill, Eileen Crouse, and a number of other professionals from the college and the community on this project.
Whenever you start an event from the ground up you face many challenges. During the development of the Dirty Bird I ran into tight deadlines and budgets, but was able to create all necessary materials under budget and on time.
My Photos & Logo
Marketing for the Run
I was on the design committee for the Dirty Bird and was responsible for every level of marketing for the event. I created the logo for the Dirty Bird, which was used on all the promotional material including the t-shirts and trophies, which I designed. I also created the flyers, the honor flags, and the course map.
During the event I put on my photojournalist hat and provided the college with high resolution photos that where displayed on their social media sites and have been used in other promotional material for the event.
The Dirty Bird was so successful that it has become an annual event.
Here is a little information on the actual race and I have included a link in case you want to check it out.
The Race
The Dirty Bird is a challenging 5 mile race that takes place at Southwestern Michigan College. It combines military inspired obstacles with hilly terrain and mud.
The Benefits
The proceeds from the Dirty Bird benefit those who have served our country. Net proceeds will fund the Military Veterans Scholarships at Southwestern Michigan College. Last year SMC was able to award six student veterans a total of $7,000.
